Bethpage VITA Program

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance

2024 Bethpage VITA Program

The IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free basic tax return preparation to qualified individuals. The VITA program has operated for over 50 years, and VITA sites offer free tax help to people who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns, who generally make $65,000 or less.

While the IRS manages the VITA program, all sites are operated by IRS partners and staffed by volunteers who want to make a difference in their communities. All VITA volunteers who prepare returns must take and pass tax law training that meets or exceeds IRS standards. Each filing season, tens of thousands of dedicated VITA volunteers prepare millions of federal and state returns.

We are pleased to announce that the 21st annual Bethpage VITA program successfully prepared 892 tax returns this past tax season. Bethpage volunteers committed a total of 2,619 hours to assist individuals and families prepare their 2023 tax returns through both virtual and in-person appointments. Bethpage was able to help Long Island taxpayers receive a total of $1,097,786 in refunds.

Since 2004, the Bethpage VITA program has provided free personal income tax return preparation assistance to over 25,919 low-to-moderate income individuals and families on Long Island. Bethpage VITA has returned more than $30.6 million in taxpayer refunds to date.

Please note that the Bethpage VITA appointment application is now closed. The application will return and again be available to taxpayers as early as: Monday, January 27th, 2025

If you have any questions, please contact Community Development at community@bethpagefcu.com or (516) 349-4288.

The IRS manages the VITA/TCE program. The program is operated and staffed by volunteers who are not tax professionals.
